Paul Maloney, GMB Regional Secretary said: “This league table for the annual average earnings for full time workers in the different occupational groups working for employers in the Dorset and Wiltshire area is very instructive.
“It shows the sheer range of pay from the top to the bottom of the pay league. At the top are financial institution managers and directors on £63,337 and at the bottom, elementary services occupations on £14,805.
“It is not the full picture as it does not include part time workers or those in the gig economy who most of the time earn much less than the full time shop workers at the bottom of the pay league.
“What these figures show is the importance of income support and housing benefits for those at the bottom of the pay league. As Universal Credit which replaces these benefits is rolled out GMB will continue to monitor the impact on the take home incomes of workers who depend on it to make ends meet”.
